Apartment in the Sky

A unique residence floating above the Chicago skyline showcasing the best of modern living and classic taste. Our concept developed around framing the incredible panoramic views of the city. Working closely with the client’s eye, we crafted a timeless aesthetic appropriate for a space with these backdrops.

Panelized walls are carefully placed to break down the vertical scale of the space’s volume, while also defining living and art spaces. Black inverted entry portals outline the thresholds between the public rooms. Additional emphasis and drama are generated through the use of a monochromatic palette that speaks to the skyline’s omnipresent silhouettes.

Custom walls throughout, base, casing and ceiling details distinguish each space. Details seen in the entry gallery, living room and dining room unfold to inform the design of the units' more intimate spaces, such as the sleeping areas and study, while also inspiring details such as the hand hammered door knob design and cabinetry. The combination of layouts, materials and bold forms crescendos into a home grounded in refinement and floating above all else.
